Silverstone Shuttle Bus Crash, Saturday 4 July 2026
On Saturday 4 July 2026, I was travelling back from Silverstone to Buckingham on one of the official shuttle buses when the vehicle was involved in a serious crash on the A422 Brackley Road near Radclive.
To my knowledge, this incident has received little or no media coverage despite the severity of what occurred.
The bus was among the first shuttle services to leave Silverstone at approximately 17:15 following the end of Formula 1 Qualifying.
The force of the impact was extreme. The bus only came to a stop after colliding with trees at the roadside. As shown in Image 1, the vehicle was only inches away from tipping over completely, which could easily have resulted in serious injuries or fatalities.
Image 2 demonstrates the severity of the collision, which occurred while the bus was travelling at normal road speed on a 50-60mph A-road.
The crash itself was serious enough. What has angered me most, however, is Silverstone’s response afterwards. In their written reply they make a number of statements that are plainly untrue and disproven by the facts. Rather than acknowledging what happened and the failings that followed, they appear to be attempting to minimise the severity of the incident and misrepresent how passengers were treated after the crash.
Timeline of Events
Approximately 08:00, Saturday 4 July 2026
We arrived at the Buckingham shuttle bus stop and boarded a bus to Silverstone. Our tickets WERE scanned on departure.
Between 08:30 and 17:15
We enjoyed an excellent day at Silverstone, attending the F1 Sprint, Qualifying session and support races.
Approximately 17:15
We returned to the Buckingham shuttle bus stop at Silverstone and boarded the return service.
Importantly, our tickets were NOT SCANNED before boarding. They were only visually inspected. This means Silverstone and/or the contracted bus operator had no accurate record of who was on the bus.
Approximately 17:35
The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle on the A422 near Radclive. The bus left the carriageway and crashed heavily into trees before coming to a standstill.
We were seated on the upper deck on the left-hand side. The force of the impact shattered multiple windows and sent large branches through the side of the bus.
Approximately 17:35 to 17:45
Following the collision, the driver took no visible action to assist passengers. Please note it was clear at this stage that the driver did fully speak English.
To the best of my recollection:
• The engine was not immediately switched off.
• No evacuation was initiated by the driver.
• No search of the vehicle was conducted by the driver.
• No checks were made on passenger welfare by the driver.
Passengers who were frightened, shocked and disorientated were left to organise and carry out their own evacuation through the rear emergency exit.
Approximately 17:45
All passengers had evacuated the vehicle via the emergency exit.
There were multiple injuries, including cuts, bleeding, shock and complaints of bone and muscle pain.
No Silverstone representative was present. The driver remained on the bus using a phone whilst passengers received no instructions or assistance and instead helped one another.
Approximately 17:50
Along with dozens of other shaken passengers, we were left with no alternative but to walk approximately 1.5 miles into Buckingham along a busy A-road.
While making our way on foot, cars and lorries were passing at speed. Emergency vehicles could be seen and heard travelling towards the crash site, indicating that emergency assistance was required at the scene.
Despite this, passengers who had already evacuated were left to fend for themselves.
19:09, Saturday 4 July 2026
I submitted a report via Silverstone’s online contact form.
In that message, I explained that we had been involved in a serious crash on one of their shuttle buses and requested written confirmation that we had been passengers on the service.
I also requested a refund of the £14 shuttle bus fare, as the service had failed to complete its journey to the advertised destination.
Silverstone’s Response
16:29, Wednesday 8 July 2026
Four days after the incident, I received the following response from Silverstone:
“Thank you for contacting us regarding the shuttle bus incident on your journey from Silverstone to Buckingham.”
“First and foremost, we are sorry for the distress caused by the incident and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.”
“Following the incident, the matter was immediately handled by both Silverstone representatives and our dedicated safety teams. A full response was coordinated on the day to ensure the welfare of all passengers and to assess the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
“Based on the information recorded at the scene and subsequent reviews, no serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Any passengers who required assistance or treatment received appropriate support on the day.”
“We understand your concerns regarding the driver’s actions and the evacuation process. These matters were reviewed as part of our internal incident procedures and in accordance with our safety protocols.”
“After careful consideration, we are unable to offer a refund or additional compensation in this circumstance. As the incident was managed appropriately on the day and no serious injuries were recorded, we do not believe there are grounds to provide reimbursement of ticket costs or further compensation.”
“Should you wish to provide photographs or any additional information for our records, please feel free to send these to us and they will be added to the incident file for review.”
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Why Silverstone’s Response Is False
16:45, Wednesday 8 July 2026
I was astonished by Silverstone’s response. It lacked any meaningful empathy and contained statements that are factually incorrect.
As a passenger on the bus, I know these statements are false because I witnessed the events first-hand.
Silverstone state:
“The matter was immediately handled by both Silverstone representatives and our dedicated safety teams.”
This did not happen.
There were no Silverstone representatives present during the evacuation. There were no dedicated safety teams assisting passengers after the crash. Passengers were left to organise and carry out their own evacuation through the emergency exit.
Silverstone also state:
“A full response was coordinated on the day to ensure the welfare of all passengers.”
This is false.
Passengers were forced to evacuate themselves and then walk approximately 1.5 miles along a busy A-road into Buckingham. No welfare checks were carried out on us. No Silverstone representative checked whether we were safe, injured or required assistance.
Most importantly, Silverstone had no accurate record of who was travelling on the bus because tickets were not scanned before departure from Silverstone. They therefore had no way of knowing whether every passenger had been accounted for or whether anyone required further assistance.
Silverstone further state:
“Any passengers who required assistance or treatment received appropriate support on the day.”
This is also false.
I personally witnessed injured, shocked and distressed passengers following the collision. The passengers themselves provided support to one another. The evacuation was passenger-led, not Silverstone-led. No support was offered to me, and nobody subsequently contacted me to check on my welfare despite me reporting the incident directly to Silverstone on the same evening.
These are not matters of opinion. They are statements of fact based on what occurred and what I witnessed as a passenger on the bus.
Silverstone’s response presents a version of events that does not reflect reality and significantly downplays the seriousness of the incident.
Serious Questions That Remain Unanswered
• Why were passengers not scanned onto the return shuttle bus before departure?
• How did Silverstone account for every passenger following the crash?
• Which Silverstone representatives attended the scene and at what time?
• Which “dedicated safety teams” attended the scene and what actions did they take?
• How can Silverstone state that all passengers received appropriate support when no welfare checks were carried out?
• Why were evacuated passengers left to walk along a busy A-road into Buckingham?
• What investigation has been conducted into the driver’s actions before and after the crash?
• Why is Silverstone refusing even to refund the cost of a shuttle service that failed to complete its journey?
Passengers deserve clear answers to these questions.
Appeal for Witnesses
If you were on this shuttle bus, or if you have photographs, videos or any additional information relating to the crash, I would be grateful if you could get in touch.
I am particularly interested in hearing from anyone who can provide further evidence of:
• The condition of the bus following the impact.
• The evacuation process.
• Passenger injuries.
• The absence of Silverstone representatives or safety personnel at the scene.
• The treatment of passengers after the crash.
The more witnesses who come forward, the harder it becomes for the seriousness of this incident to be dismissed or rewritten.
